CFS Aquarius increases flexibility in vertical packaging and improves quality in lollipop wrapping

At ProSweets in Cologne, Germany (1 to 4 February 2009), CFS is exhibiting a new vertical packer that combines high speed, flexibility and appealing presentation in confectionery packaging, and a quality assurance system that automatically checks each individual lollipop on wrapping quality. These innovations, developed to increase operational efficiency and therefore lower costs, can be seen on the CFS stand in hall 10.1, stand F060.

CFS SmartPacker CX250FThe CFS SmartPacker CX250F is an innovative continuous vertical packaging machine that responds to the challenges many confectionery manufacturers currently face. It can be used to produce high-quality Block Bottom, Quatro Seal, Quatro Box and Envelope bags in an intermittent mode. As well as being versatile, it also delivers 24/7 performance in continuous mode at a speed of up to 160 pillow-bags per minute with very high efficiency. Nomad van Bussel, Manager of the CFS Confectionery Segment says, “The product lifecycles of confectionery products are getting shorter, even for successful brands and variants. Confectionery manufacturers nowadays need to produce at the lowest cost as well as be versatile in order to respond quickly to trends. A SmartPacker CX250F is a wise investment as it not only makes it possible to produce pillow bags very efficiently at a high speed and low cost but also produce a variety of appealing presentations when needed. This gives brand-owners an additional weapon for fighting for a share of a fast-moving, competitive market.”

Minimize labor costs, maximize wrapping quality
Unlike conventional quality checking where wrapped lollipops are manually inspected at a separate station, the CFS Aquarius Quality Assurance System is fully automated and integrated into the lollipop-wrapping machine. It also checks every single lollipop on wrapping material and wrapping quality. A lollipop that does not meet the requirements is automatically rejected and removed. The potential cost savings are substantial in terms of the fewer operator-hours needed to manually inspect the wrapping quality. The efficiency of the wrapping processes is increased, giving manufacturers a choice of higher capacity or faster production.

A third innovative product from the CFS is the patented Overlap Seal double-twist wrapper, which unlike regular double-twist wrappers that allow moisture to reach the lollipop, is hermetically sealed. Kees Le Loux, Segment Manager for Lollipops, said, “You can even immerse the wrapped lollipop in water, and it remains dry inside the wrapper. The Overlap Seal double-twist is as easy to open as a regular double-twist. And in line with our commitment to extending the economic viability of our customers’ equipment, existing CFS Aquarius TwistWrapper machines can be upgraded for the Overlap Seal double-twist wrappers”. The TwistWrapper 600, 800 and 1,000 series are continuous-motion machines for double-twist wrapping of lollipops from 18 to 35 mm in diameter. They operate smoothly and accurately at up to 1,000 lollipops a minute, achieving such high speed thanks to smooth film handling, precise cutting and automatic feeding.
